St Nicholas' Parish Church, Prestwick

St Nicholas Parish Church is part of the Church of Scotland (a Reformed Presbyterian Church) and the basis of our faith is the Word of God as contained in the Bible.

We believe in one God - the Father , the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that God is present in the world and is seeking to enrich our lives through knowing Jesus Christ, his Son.

Our aim is to follow the teaching and example of Jesus Christ through whose life, death and resurrection we come to know, love and worship God. We seek to do this through love and practical care for each other and those we encounter in our daily lives.

We observe the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. We baptise believing adults and the children of Christian families. Christians of any denomination are welcome to Holy Communion.

We believe in the ministry of all God's people so the parish minister is often part of the ministerial team including assistant ministers, deacons, readers, elders and other church members. in addition to leading worship the ministerial team provides pastoral care to all who seek it. In this way the Church provides care and resources for the community.

Worship
We welcome you to worship with us at St Nicholas at our main Sunday morning service, or on any of the other occasions listed below.

The supplementary worship services during the week are helpful opportunities for fellowship and provide mutual help and support in the Christian faith.

Resources from some of these activities are available both as web pages and separately as hard copies for individual use. These include edited versions of Mr Fiddes' sermons on the Kingdom of God and Colossians, summaries of studies from Sunday @ Seven and an introductory series of outlines under the title: Unlocking the Bible.

Morning Worship:
The service is a traditional Church of Scotland service incorporating hymns, prayers, Scripture readings, choir anthems and it focuses on the preaching the Word.
It lasts an hour or so. A children's talk is included in the early part of the service following which there is separate Sunday School and creche provision while the adult service is on.

There is normally a cup of tea/coffee served after the morning service which is a useful time to meet and chat informally.

If you are a visitor, you are especially welcome. There is a visitor's book at the front door of the church, and we will value the addition of your details.

Please note that during the months of July and August, 2008 the services will begin at 10.30am, and after that revert back to the usual time of 11.00am to 12.00 noon.

Bible Study:
A Bible Study meets on a Wednesday evening at 7 30 pm. Conducted by the minister, it is an informal, discussion-based study of a particular book of the Bible with a focus on practical application in everyday Christian witness. It is open to all.

Prayer Time:
A Prayer Time is held on Saturday mornings from 9.15am until 1000am. This is an informal time of corporate prayer for the church, the community and the wider needs of the world. This is again open for all to come and pray for their own and others' needs. (Normally, on the last Saturday of the month it combines with other churches in the Prestwick and Ayr area)

The Church is also open for quiet prayer, and meditation each Tuesday morning from 10.00am until 11.00am.

Praise Night:
These are held, jointly with other Prestwick churches on the first Sunday evening of each month. These alternate between Monkton and Prestwick North and St Nicholas. Conducted by the minister and led by the Praise Group they offer an informal opportunity to express the faith through some of the newer worship songs and are structured around a devotional theme.

Sunday@Seven:
Sunday@Seven is a series of extended opportunities for fellowship, teaching, worship and prayer which take place in the Church Hall on the 3rd Sunday evening of each month at 07.00pm. These informal evening gatherings look at topics, themes and pictures from the Bible as a basis for understanding what it means to be a Christian and to be effective church in these challenging days.
