Prestwick South Community Council
Notes from meeting on 27th August
Sgt Ian Morrow from the Prestwick Community Policing Team reported on the local priorities identified after consultation which are antisocial behaviour (public drinking, youth disorder, vandalism and gaffiti), drug use and drug dealing, and speeding motorists particularly around local schools. He was able to report considerable success in dealing with these issues.
Several members expressed their concern at the situation which has arisen in the town centre where all three pharmacies are operated by Boots. It was suggested that the lack of competition could be to the detriment of the customers.
Councillor Betty McGowan expressed her concern at the introduction of the new local bus service. Not only does the reduction from 8 to 4 buses per hour means that some are running full with the risk of passengers being unable to get on but there is confusion over the new routes and bus stops. She complained that there was no proper consultation before the new services were introduced.
Other issues raised included the continuing problems of overflows from the main sewer through the town and the requirement to identify a suitable transit site for travelling people.
