Prestwick (Scotland) - Lichtenfels (Germany) - Vandalia (USA) - Ariccia (Italy)

Our role is to link citizens of our town, particularly young people, and increase knowledge of other cultures. Many enduring friendships have been established over the years and we are pleased that links between schools in the different countries are also continuing.

Visit to Lichtenfels 2012
In August eleven members of the association went on a town twinning trip to Lichtenfels, where they enjoyed a week filled with activities in the company of their host families. During the week we were given the chance to try many new things, including a trip to Bamberg and the Bamberg Garden Show, a visit to Schloss Rosenau (where Prince Albert was born), beer tasting in a micro-brewery, an afternoon walking around a wildlife park and museum, and a boat trip on the river Main. In Lichtenfels itself we were received by the Mayor, Dr Bianca Fischer, before visiting the former synagogue in Lichtenfels and the spa centre in Bad Staffelstein. The weather was summery throughout the stay, and as the sun shone, friendships were made and renewed during the many lovely meals we shared.

Visit to Ariccia 2012

A group from the AFO visited Ariccia in April and some of our members travelled out at the same time and attended one of their concerts there.  The AFO also visited a local high school and gave several other performances.

Visit from Ariccia

From 26 - 30 August 2011 we hosted a group from Ariccia. This was the first group of ordinary members to come from our latest Twin Town and we thank all those that hosted. We visited Arran, Edinburgh, Burns Centre and Culzean. On Monday evening we hosted a very enjoyable Scottish night with music provided by the young people of the Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra (AFO) under the direction of Wallace Galbraith. This gave us the chance to involve our Italian friends in some Scottish dances. On the Tuesday morning the Italians had an interesting tour of Beggs cashmere factory and the opportunity to purchase some last minute gifts.

Visit to Vandalia

From 18 - 25 June 2011 3 of our members joined the party from Lichtenfels visiting our twin town of Vandalia in Ohio, USA. This will be described to the rest of the members at November's meeting.

Visit from Lichtenfels and Vandalia

From the 20th to the 26th August 2010 Prestwick Town Twinning Association hosted visitors from our twin towns of Vandalia, Ohio, USA and Lichtenfels, Bavaria, Germany. On Wednesday 25th we held a meeting to discuss how to increase youth involvement in Town Twinning. Those attending included representatives from Vandalia, Lichtenfels and our new Twin Town of Ariccia, Italy. The visit from Lichtenfels was supported with a grant from Europe's Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) and a grant from Awards For All (Scotland).
