Horsing around on Prestwick Beach

  • Anthony Roll (4), his mum, and Marie Robertson (4), all from Monkton, 1956. (c) The Evening Times

Here's a trip down memory lane...

This picture was taken for the Evening Times in May 1956. It shows the ponies which gave children rides along the sands at Prestwick on their first summer outing of that year.

The children are Anthony Roll (4) and Marie Robertson (4) of Monkton - so they hadn't come far to enjoy the early summer sun in Prestwick. The woman is Anthony's mother, keeping an eye on the two kids, just in case...

Do you recognise anyone in the pic? Perhaps that's you up there on the gentle pony's back, 53 years ago! Or maybe you just have fond memories of those long summer days on Prestwick beach. If so - please tell us all here - let's spend a little time in the past.

And remember - if you have any old pictures of Prestwick in times past, you can share them with us all here on s1prestwick.com

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
