Grant award for Prestwick special needs sports club
18 NovemberSports for Special Needs at The Space Place in Prestwick has become the latest organisation to benefit from a grant from Ayrshire Sportsability.
The club has been awarded a grant of £200 by the charity, which promotes the wellbeing of children and young people with a disability through sports.
The grant will go towards paying for a pool safety award for the club’s teachers. This safety award means coaches will be able to act as a poolside responders at their swimming club at The Galleon Centre, Kilmarnock. They will be trained in pool rescue, adult / child cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and be able to administer first aid at poolside emergencies.
Dr Wai-yin Hatton, Chair of Ayrshire Sportsability and Chief Executive of NHS Ayrshire & Arran, commented: “The aim of these grants is to offer children and young people with physical, emotional, sensory and learning difficulties the opportunity to try new sports. It is fantastic that we can help support local organisations and clubs to provide these opportunities to young people in a safe and supportive environment.”
Ayrshire Sportsability is offering non-recurring grants of up to £200 to clubs, schools and individuals to help children and young people with physical, sensory and learning difficulties take part in sports.
