Prestwick Airport re-naming campaign hits Facebook

  • A campaign to re-name Prestwick Airport 'Robert Burns International' has been launched on Facebook
A new campaign to have Prestwick Airport renamed as 'Robert Burns International' has been launched on social networking site Facebook.

And already almost 1700 people have signed a petition on the social networking site demanding a change to the airport's title. They want the name of Scotland's Bard Robert Burns to front a new-look image for the airport, and have launched the campaign calling itself "Rename Glasgow Prestwick Airport to Robert Burns International."

If Prestwick Airport was named THE ROBERT BURNS INTERNATIONAL the web-site would not be allowed to look like it does at present: Glasgow Prestwick Website: http://www.gpia.co.uk/ Who honestly likes the way the airport is being promoted? Covered in expensive Graffiti.

Hi Geoff, I wonder if you have looked at these two recently. Scotrail pamphlet and Nicholson maps. Both have our Ayrport named Prestwick International Airport. So I therefore can state Scotrail and Nicholson believe in both the Petition and Facebook site. Are there any more large companies who regard our Ayrport as PIK ?

Geoff Crolley says

How many roadsigns have you seen which actually say "GLASGOW PRESTWICK AIRPORT"?

Why? Because they would be confusing.

Geoff Crolley says

It is misleading visitors: http://glasgow-pik.airports-guides.com/

It does mention tthings to see in the "city" of Ayr in the last paragraph:

"Ayr is the closest city to Glasgow Prestwick Airport and is associated with the famous poet, Robert Burns, who was born nearby. The Maclaurin Art Gallery is also worth visiting in Ayr, along with the horse racing at the Ayr Racecourse and a number of waterfront attractions based around the port."

With Robert Burns Birthplace Museum official opening on Friday the 21st of January 2011, Robert Burns International Ayrport will receive Federation members from all over the World through it's forecourt.

How much would a banner cost which simply says' Welcome through my gateway to Ayrshire an' a' that ' signed Robert Burns.

We could ask Donald Kay suitably attired,if he would like to walk around in the forecourt from November 2010, the soft opening.

4,638 People like this campaign so far.

The question is: Should we be concentrating more on tourism in the south west or not?

If so, would this not be a good start?

Alex Christie says

Only 12 friends of Robert Burns International Ayrport are needed to apply for funding for the banners and cherry picker to prise off the meaningless plastic graffiti.A fee for Mr. Kay would also be appropriate.

We need not wait for permission to apply for funding.

A friends of... presence in the entrance hall like the friends of... in Ayr for the Gaiety.

Someone dressed as Elvis standing beside Donald would make a meaningful picture for www.viewat.org.

Have your say...
