Prestwick council services to be hit by industrial action
23 NovemberCouncil services in Prestwick are set to be badly affected by industrial action on Wednesday 30th November, with schools, libraries, sports facilities and community centres all set to be closed on the day.
The action is in response to proposed changes to public sector pensions. As a result, many Council services – such as bin collections – and facilities like schools, libraries and Council tax offices may be unavailable or provide a significantly reduced service on this date.
The Council is currently working with the trade unions to agree exemptions for those employees who provide essential services to vulnerable members of the community.
David Anderson, Chief Executive of South Ayrshire Council, said: "While we will do all we can to maintain some level of business continuity on 30 November, there is no doubt this day of industrial action is likely to have a significant impact on our services.
"We're currently assessing the likely levels of disruption across individual services; however, I would encourage people to think about any alternative arrangements they may have to make as a result of the action – particularly parents and carers who will need to have suitable childcare available if their child's school is closed.
As details become available, information on the expected impact of the industrial action on specific Council services will be available at www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/industrial-action or from the customer contact centre on 0300 123 0900.
