Set to open doors on Prestwick's new Sainsbury's store
9 JulySainsbury's will open the doors of its brand new store in Prestwick on Wednesday 14th July, creating 220 jobs in the town.
The new store has 45,000 sq ft of shop space, and includes a petrol station, as well as providing online shopping services covering the whole of Ayrshire.
The new Sainsbury's Prestwick has just selected "Ayrshire Sands", the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, as its local charity partner after nominations from the public.
The store management team has already helped to raise £2,000 for the Ayrshire Hospice, by taking part in a "Midnight Walk". The store also donated 25 hampers, full of 'Taste The Difference' products, to local charities and schools.
The store is also supporting schools in the area, starting with Kingcase Primary School next door. Together with its construction firm, Sainsbury's has built a football pitch, and the store will work closely with Glenburn Primary over the coming months.
They also plan to work closely with the Prestwick community supporting local events such as the National Bowling Championships which they will be supporting this July. The store has also contributed to the Prestwick Oval by refurbishing some of the land and creating sports areas for kids.
The store's manager Marc Watson, who started working for Sainsbury's as a student 15 years ago and is the former manager of the Partick and Kirkintilloch stores, said: "We're expecting a really good opening day following the success of our preview day back in June, when 800 people attended."
